About the book:
Elections in the United States have always generated worldwide interest due to their impact on international politics, and this has grown increasingly so in the last decade. However, there remains a widespread lack of understanding about the US electoral system and even its political system. What are the origins of US politics and what values does its Constitution promote? How is the separation of powers determined as a system of checks and balances? How are the US federal system and the two-party system defined? How does Congress operate as a bicameral system? How are legislative and presidential elections, electoral campaigns, and political party financing organized? This book thus aims to describe and explain the functioning of institutions in US politics and their origins, in order to understand how they are democratically organized to elect their representatives, how they do so, and when. It also offers a comparison with the Spanish political system.
