Iulia Vescan, PhD Candidate, is a lecturer at the Instituto Franklin of the Universidad de Alcalá where she is currently Coordinator of the Teach and Learn in Spain Master’s Program. She obtained a Master’s in American Studies (Instituto Franklin – UAH, 2010) and a Bachelor Degree in English Philology (Universidad de Alcalá, 2008). Her research focuses on Bilingual Education teacher training, intercultural perspectives in teaching and learning, and the teaching of foreign languages. She teaches the course “Language Awareness” in the MA in Bilingual and Multicultural Education and the course “Aprendizaje – servicio en un contexto bilingüe” in the Spanish Studies Program of the Instituto Franklin-UAH. She was a member of the editorial committee of the Camino Real Journal 2009-2010. Representative of PhD Candidates of the Instituto Franklin-UAH Academic Board.

This book is intended as an introduction to different views on Bilingual Education in a globalized world focusing on perspectives from the United States and Spain presented at the First International Conference on Bilingual Education in a Globalized World held at the Instituto Franklin of the Universidad de Alcalá in October 2014. Globalization has increased our expectations of Bilingual Education and also has determined our need to acquire more than one language or culture and appreciate diversity and multiculturalism. More specifically, it is the development and growth of Bilingual Education programs in both Spain and the United States that are explored throughout the selected articles which we hope will allow readers to better understand Bilingual Education in both countries. The book is organized into the following four chapters: 1) Bilingual Education, 2) Dual Language Programs, 3) CLIL/ AICLE Proposals, and 4)Proposals for the Bilingual Classroom.
