Neither Eagle Nor Serpent: la guerra de Vietnam como tema literario en la novela chicana reflects the bicultural context of this community and the specific topics recreated in works related with non-literary novels about Vietnam. This is due to the criticism done to the Government and the controversial material writers deal with, such as classism, xenophobia, and manipulation of concepts as manliness or patriotism. In order to reach this conclusion, the author has carried out a thematic typology based on comparative literature and multicultural studies. Following current theories rejecting the principle of literary text autonomy, the author has founded her work on other subjects, such as Cultural Anthropology, Sociology and Psychology, specifically on Trauma Theory. The writer has examined the thematic-structural basis of the studied novels using a scheme of three narrative phases.
