José Antonio Gurpegui is Full Professor of American Studies at the Universidad de Alcalá. He was Director of the Instituto Franklin-UAH from 2003 to 2013. He was Visiting Scholar at Harvard University from 1994 to 1996, and he is Fellow of the Matthiessen Room of that University. He has published several books and essays in Spanish and American publishing houses such as Cátedra, Espasa-Calpe, Huerga y Fierro, Duke University Press, University of Iowa Press, Bilingüal Press, etc. Some of his works include Hemingway and Existentialism (2013); Interpreting the New Millenium (2008); John Steinbeck: escribir en el edén (2006), Narrativa chicana: nuevas propuestas analíticas (2003); Historia crítica de la novela norteamericana (2001). In addition, he writes in the cultural supplement of El Mundo and is part of the El team of columnists. He is member of the project “Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage” in the United States and the Advisory Board of the “Comisión Nacional para las Conmemoraciones de Nueva España” in Spain.
