Phd in American Studies

Application and Enrollment

In order to be admitted in the Phd in American Studies Program, the candidate must complete the pre-registration process:

  • Check you meet the access and admissions requirements.
  • Contact the doctoral program’s Coordinator and your potential Thesis Advisor and attach your personal statement (PDF).
  • Go to the online pre-registration form to PhD programs and follow the instructions indicated there, bearing in mind that you must upload the required electronic documents in PDF format (files cannot exceed 4 MB and the total size must not exceed 10 MB).
  • You will be notified via email of the outcome of your application. You may also consult the registration application online.
    • If admitted by the program’s Academic Committee, you must then:
      • Submit the required documentation, in paper, in person or by postal mail, to the Escuela de Doctorado (Colegio de León, C/ Libreros, 21; 28801 Alcalá de Henares – Madrid).
      • Furthermore, you, your Tutor, and your Thesis Advisor, must sign the Learning and Good Practice Agreement included in the admissions form.
      • Formalize your enrollment within ten days from the communication of admission. The username and password are the same as for the online pre-registration.
    • Should you not be admitted you may appeal within three days following notification via email through the online preregistration application.

Once admitted to the PhD Program, the applicant must formalize his/her enrollment and pay the enrollment fee within ten days following admission in order to secure the right to academic tutelage.

This enrollment represents an official connection to the University which will grant access to all of the resources necessary to conduct research and to all of the rights as a doctoral student. Should enrollment not be formalized and/or the corresponding fees not paid the admission will be void and the student’s academic dossier will be closed.

If you are already a PhD student you must also formalize your enrollment every academic year, beginning with the year of admission and continuing until the defense of your dissertation.

In the event you do not formalize your enrollment or pay the enrollment fee, your academic dossier will be closed and, as a result, you will lose your status as doctoral student of the UAH. In the event that you later wish to resume your doctoral studies you will have to reapply to said program.
