The MA of International Education includes 8 courses which will study, analyze, and provide the methods and didactic strategies necessary to train participants for their professional development. Participants will also develop materials, teaching syllabus and will do practical activities in order to understand the changing needs of the globalized academic context of today.
Courses are interdisciplinary, intercultural and innovative. The program requires an active participation of students and allows them to develop different professional skills such as teamwork, planning, organizing, leading groups, researching, development of cultural awareness and differences, among others.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The MA of International Education is taught in English and Spanish. This setting will permit students improve their language skills in both languages and understand the uniqueness of bilingual and multicultural classrooms and settings.

  • Educación internacional y comparación de modelos educativos (4 créditos ECTS)
    En este curso introductorio los alumnos aprenderán la trascendencia que tienen los cambios internacionales que se han producido en las últimas décadas  a nivel social, político, económico y cómo éstos han influido la educación. Como resultado cada vez hay más colegios internacionales y bilingües que tratan de formar a los estudiantes, profesionales del futuro, que necesitan una serie de herramientas lingüísticas  y competencias interculturales, comunicativas, etc  que les sirvan en distintos ambientes culturales. Se hará también un repaso de diferentes modelos educativos (UE, España y EE.UU) y su evolución y efectividad. 

  •  Models  in curriculum design (4 créditos ECTS)
    This course will look at the processes that teachers and educators have to develop once it has been decided what is the body of knowledge that students need to learn. These processes normally include some objectives, contents,  methodology, and evaluation of results. This would be a linear model of curriculum design. Other models are centered in the student, where the teacher acts as a facilitator. These and other models by M. Print, L. Brady, D. Walker, etc will be anlyzed.

  • Global English in an intercultural environment (4 créditos ECTS)
    The influence and importance of the English language is a fact. A working knowledge of English in many fields has become, in the last decades, a requirement, and it is for example the official language of aerial and maritime communications. English has also had an influence on the culture of other countries through the use of movies, magazines, etc which will also be explored.

  • Management and leadership in internacional schools (4 créditos ECTS)
    The course introduces students to some basic leadership and management skills, theories of education and how they could work in different countries and cultures. Aspects such as corporate culture, empowering the staff, the promotion of effective learning, professional development, cultural awareness and intercultural relations will be addressed.

  • Evaluación de programas de educación internacional (4 créditos ECTS)
    La evaluación de los programas educativos internacionales es fundamental para valorar el  impacto obtenido, considerando criterios como la coherencia, eficacia, eficiencia, equidad, idoneidad, etc. En este curso los alumnos conocerán tanto los distintos tipos de evaluación como los objetivos de la evaluación y el proceso que se debe seguir para llevarla a cabo. Se analizarán distintos sellos de calidad internacionales relativos a colegios como Ecis, y otros que tienen en cuenta el aprendizaje de idiomas como University of Cambridge y TESOL.

  • Teaching methods (4 créditos ECTS)
    Drawing from different experiences and resources, students will learn several methods of teaching: learner centered, curriculum centered, cooperative learning, using technology, addressing special needs, student to student learning, CLIL.

  •  Aspectos culturales en el aula (4 créditos ECTS)
    En las escuelas internacionales donde el alumnado y el profesorado pueden proceder de distintos países y culturas es fundamental que los profesores, los administradores y la dirección del colegio entiendan distintos aspectos relativos a la interculturalidad. El curso ofrece la base teórica y práctica de desarrollo de las competencias interculturales del educador internacional.

  • Theories of learning (4 créditos ECTS)
    Theories of learning are processes which explain how people learn. This course will introduce students to the different theories, like behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, transformative learning theory, neuroeducation, etc. and their effectiveness in the classroom.

  • Memoria (10 créditos ECTS)
    Memoria final de investigación relativa a una de las áreas académicas del programa.

  • Prácticas (18 créditos ECTS)
    Prácticas de enseñanza del inglés en colegios de la Comunidad de Madrid.
