Accepted applicants to the Teach & Learn Program must fulfill an internship throughout the academic year in different schools of the region of Madrid- Comunidad de Madrid.
Internship characteristics:
- The internship will be from 18 to 25 hours per week.
- Interns will have no labor relation with schools.
- Interns will assist teachers in the classroom from pre-school to secondary school.
- The commitment will be for the academic year from September to June.
Interns will receive a stipend which will vary depending on the number of hours worked per week, to cover some living expenses. When possible, schools will provide free lunch or at a lower price.
TEACH & LEARN INTERNSHIP STIPEND:
- Internship for 18 hours (per week)
Stipend for living expenses ...... 5.800€/ divided in 10 months
- Internship for 24 hours (per week)*
Stipend for living expenses 7.500€/ divided in 10 months
Intern responsibilities:
- develop teaching lessons and activities, according to the school’s bilingual program
- facilitate the oral practice of students and will offer guidance for pronunciation and grammatical correction.
- collaborate with teachers developing didactic materials and will help develop new ideas and activities.
- help students and teachers understand their culture and customs.
- Be required to teach classes to students under the supervision of school teachers.
- Inform the school coordinator of any problems or incidents which may arise during the program.
- If needed, interns may dedicate some time to conversational classes in English with the rest of the teachers. Except for these hours, the rest of the hours must be dedicated solely to students.
Intern’s conditions, schedules, obligations and rights are not the same as that of the school’s teachers.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Schedules in schools are not Instituto Franklin’s responsibility. Schedules will be provided directly by schools DURING THE FIRST MONTH OF THE INTERNSHIP.
Failure to fulfill these responsibilities could result in the expelling of the program.
Leaving the Teach & Learn Program
Participants who wish to leave the program early should inform in writing to the school and Instituto Franklin one month before the termination date.
Participants who leave the program early will lose their TIE (Tarjeta de Identificación de Extranjería).
Probation period: Participants will have a probation period of 15 days. If a school decides to conclude an internship due to reasonable causes, Instituto Franklin will try to get another school for the participant, although this cannot be guaranteed. If a participant is sent to a second school and the internship is terminated again due to reasonable causes, this will also terminate the student´s participation in the Master´s program. In this case the participant will be responsible for all
costs derived from this situation and his/her trip back to the US.
No reimbursement of deposit will be made in this case.
Absences: Absences that are not justified with a medical or school note can result in a deduction of the monthly stipend.
Labor relations: Interns have no labor relation whatsoever with schools.
