The area of research, Hispanics in the United States, is a high priority in the Instituto Franklin. Over the years, projects have been developed with official state and private funding. Through the success of such projects, the Instituto Franklin has been able to re-invest its own funds for additional projects, which has transformed the Institute into a focal point of reference on the subject for North American and European students.
Courses, seminars, and international conferences related to the subject of Hispanics in the United States are regularly organized by the Instituto Franklin. "The 5th International Conference of Hispanic Cultures in the United States" (1992) and "The 5th International Conference of Chicana Literature" (2006) are two highlights of many which the Instituto Franklin has organized. Artists and critics such as Rosa M., Ana Castillo, Sandra Cisneros, María Herrera-Sobek, Francisco Lomelí, Alejandro Morales, Tino Villanueva, and Sabine Ulibarrí, among others have participated in these activities. Equally important in priority, the Instituto Franklin pays special attention to the presence of the Spanish language in America, especially in the United States, as part of the historic, political, cultural, and linguistic diversity of the Hispanic community in the US.
The Instituto Franklin is the headquarters of ADECHAN (Asociación Española para el Diálogo y Estudio de las Culturas Hispanas en Estados Unidos).
