Contemporary American Culture and Philosophy

There is a permanent link between the American culture and the several ways the American society has expressed its philosophical approaches. Thinking about this link we can get a new –and fruitful– understanding of American thought and, so, we can approachthe American culture considering it as a way to say America, a way to forge America.

And the question is not only a question for American scholars, but we think that when we can conceive a different America immediately we acquire a different Europe. If we can realize expressing culture is first a way to say America, perhaps we could get several tools to say a new Europe, or, at least, we can back to our own culture and considering it anew. We are convinced that American laboratory is the perfect example for the culture-thought intertwining and we read this relationships in three steps:
  • The transcendentalist heritage Emerson starts
  • The presence of Pragmatism in topics as scientific research and, more obvious, in the understanding of thought which is in continuous walking with the real activity
  • A special and permanent image of community that is able to mix several parts of Liberalism with the best of comunitarianism.
