Instituto Franklin - UAH just published through its collection “Biblioteca Benjamin Franklin”, a critical edition of the "Historia de la Nveva Mexico" by Gaspar de Villagrá, with Manuel M. Martín-Rodríguez in charge of this new edition. He is Professor of Literature at the University of California, Merced. Professor Martín-Rodríguez is a specialist in Hispanic literature of the United States, from colonial times to current issue, which is a subject he explores in his previous four books, as well as numerous essays.
This edition reproduces the original text of 1610, without changes of any
kind. This edition includes an introduction to the poem’s major artistic and structural resources, which emphasize its literary value. It includes the text of the work and an appendix with copies of the census preserved from the original. Also, his 849 notes clarify many doubts, correct errors of interpretation from previous years, and identify enigmatic references.
