Conferences

Seminars and Conferences’ organization and holding are fundamental activities at the Instituto Franklin. The monumental city of Alcalá de Henares, Cervantes’ birthplace, and 500 years of history and prestige of the Universidad de Alcalá, are the cover and the frame for any kind of scientific meeting, both national and international, with participation higher than 200 members. The Instituto Franklin has a broad and proven experience organizing academic meetings. In 25 years of history we organized more than thirty conferences, the majority of them in an international sphere (HACU, Short Story Association, GIECO, ADECHAN… etc.)

There are two types of conferences celebrated in the Instituto Franklin:

  • “Own ones”: those promoted and organized by the Instituto Franklin -at least one a year- about any theme related to the United States. The last Conference has been “Poe Alive in the Century of Anxiety”.
  • “In collaboration”: those promoted by an external association or academic institution that uses the infrastructure, personnel and logistics of the Instituto Franklin. In 2009 the Conference of ALDEEU (Asociación de Licenciados y Doctores de Español en Estados Unidos) has taken place; in 2010 the Conference of EAUF (European- American University Forum) and in 2011 SAAS (Spanish Association for American Studies).
