Academic Areas

The Study Abroad in Spain program offers an ample diversity of areas of study suited to every student. Our program includes courses in Spanish Studies, International Relations, Business Administration and International Business, Translation, Education, Journalism and Communication and Health Sciences.

In addition to all these disciplines students can participate in a unique Internship Program and spend a full semester working in a company of their choice.

 

This area is specifically designed for students who are interested in the field of international business. It includes specific courses on business administration, management and business relations. Students learn about the European and Spanish business environment through on-site visits to different national and international companies.

All courses have a theoretical and practical component and coursework is complemented with visits to institutions and associations of the area that develop their work in the field.

Some courses are taught in English and others in Spanish.

 

This area is specifically designed for students who are interested in the field of translation.  It is important that students have an advanced level of Spanish (oral and written), since they will have the opportunity to practice their skills directly in different international conferences and events that are organized at the University.

All courses have a theoretical and practical component and coursework is complemented with visits to institutions and associations of the area that develop their work in the field.

This area is specifically designed for students who are interested in education in general and in bilingual programs in particular. The courses explore the context, of the Spanish education system in the European and international context as well as new trends of bilingual classroom teaching methodologies. Students can benefit from an immersion experience as English Tutors practicing the language with children in the schools of the area.

All courses have a theoretical and practical component and coursework is complemented with visits to educational institutions and associations.

Some courses are taught in English and others in Spanish.

This field is specifically designed for students who are interested in journalism and communication. Courses explore the Spanish mass media, while learning about the different communication strategies and influences taking place in the digital and global environment that we live in today. Students who are interested can apply to do an internship at the Instituto Franklin-UAH Communications Department.

All courses have a theoretical and practical component and coursework is complemented with visits to institutions and associations of the area that develop their work in this field.

Some courses are taught in English and others in Spanish.

This area is specifically designed for students who are interested in the field of health sciences or studies in general, including pre-med, biology, pharmacy, nursing of physiotherapy among others. Courses offer a practical and specialized component of integrating the Spanish language in a medical environment. In addition, students who are registered in the “Spanish for Healthcare Professionals” course do a 15 hour internship in a hospital in the area.

All courses have a theoretical and practical component and coursework is complemented with visits to medical institutions and associations in the area.

This program offers students the opportunity to learn about the Spanish cultural, economic and professional world through a 20-week practical immersion experience in a company in the area. The program consists of two parts: one is an internship in a national or international company, and the other part is made up of workshops, seminars and supervision meetings carried out at the institute.

Students will receive a total of 9 credits and, if they wish, they may choose to take an additional course in any of the areas offered in the Study Abroad in Spain Program as long as it does not overlap with their internship schedule. In this case, students will get 12 credits.
