The MA in Bilingual and Multicultural Education includes 8 courses which will study, analyze, and provide the methods and didactic strategies necessary to train participants for their professional development. Participants will also develop materials, teaching syllabus and will do practical activities in order to understand the changing needs of the globalized academic context of today.
Courses are interdisciplinary, intercultural and innovative. The program requires an active participation of students and allows them to develop different professional skills such as teamwork, planning, organizing, leading groups, researching, development of cultural awareness and differences, among others.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: The MA in Bilingual and Multicultural Education is taught in English and Spanish. This setting will permit students improve their language skills in both languages and understand the uniqueness of bilingual and multicultural classrooms and settings.

Fundamentos de la enseñanza bilingüe (4 créditos ECTS)
Se hará una reflexión sobre la relación entre los sistemas educativos y la sociedad multicultural. Cuáles son los retos a los que se enfrentan tanto los alumnos como los colegios en una sociedad cada vez más interrelacionada. Se estudiarán los modelos educativos bilingües (pluralista y asimilacionista) así como las transformaciones que la enseñanza bilingüe ha sufrido a lo largo de los años.
Bilingualism and acquisition of a second language (4 créditos ECTS)
This course would look at the varying scenarios in today society such as monolingual English schools in Spain, bilingual, monolinguals at home, bilingualism in the home and other possible ways of acquiring a second language and its effectiveness.
Teaching methodology for pre-school, primary and secondary students (4 créditos ECTS)
This course includes different didactic strategies in pre-school, primary and secondary classrooms as well as their effectiveness.
Lesson planning, curricular design, materials, skills and activities (4 créditos ECTS)
Through class observations, self and peer evaluation students will acquire the necessary skills to teach. The course will also show how to effectively prepare and adapt materials for the classroom. Activities, including drama will also be presented as well as the designing of a curriculum.
Language awareness: gramar, structure, phonetics and teaching in context (4 créditos ECTS)
This would include all the building blocks students need to know in order to understand their own language (English), and how it all fits together as well as phonetics and jolly phonics.
Global English in a multicultural environment (4 créditos ECTS)
This course will look at the past, present and future of global English for children and young adults as they take on the new world and how cultural values affect learning. Students will also learn how teachers present their values in the classroom.
Classroom management and behaviour (4 créditos ECTS)
The course will analyze what techniques and methods are more effective to keep a teaching environmente safe and productive, how teachers and students´ personalities and behaviour can affect the effectiveness of learning and how to improve it.
La sociedad multicultural a través del cine (4 créditos ECTS)
Análisis de la transformación que nuestras sociedades están experimentando a través de la inmigración y la globalización. Se utilizará el caso de España para ilustrar los cambios sociales y culturales que se han producido en los últimos años.
Memoria (10 créditos ECTS)
Memoria final de investigación relativa a una de las áreas académicas del programa.
Prácticas (18 créditos ECTS)
Prácticas de enseñanza del inglés en colegios de la Comunidad de Madrid.
