This course is directed to students interested in education and bilingualism. In 2004, the Region of Madrid started to implement a Bilingual Program in 26 public schools. Schools had to teach one third of their classes in English. Since 2004, the Bilingual Program has grown gradually every year to reach 286 schools in 2011. The program offers an ideal setting for a service learning experience for our American students. Students will be exposed to a working environment and will learn about the challenges and opportunities that bilingual education poses for administrators, teachers and pupils.
This course will offer an introduction and overview of bilingual education. It is especially recommended for students who would like to enroll in the Graduate Teach & Learn Program.
