Based on the International Women's Day, this activitiy tries to commemorate the importance and contribution of women to society, family and work. This day has grown into a week-long series of events and activities, and lectures, some of which are attended by students.
Students will have the opportunity of seeing and touching original documents related to one of the most important politicians of the 20th century in Spain, the President of the Second Spanish Republican Government, Manuel Azaña. During the visit students will analyze and study the importance of cities throughout history and how these have affected daily life, its inhabitants, etc, as well as the historical profile of President Azaña.
Students will have to visit two companies to find out information on corporative culture and they will have to write a two page paper for the teacher.
During this visit, students will learn about these two government institutions and Spanish political system, and their relationship with the European institutions.
The Congress (Spanish Parliament) and the Senate (Senado) house Spanish democracy. During both visits students will be informed about some of the last historical events that have taken placed in them like the approval of the current Spanish Constituion in 1978 or the coup d´etat of 1981.
The visit to the arqueological museum in Alcalá allows students to get a closer view of the different historical periods of Alcalá and its sorrounding areas. From pre-historical times to Roman, Visigothic, Muslim settlements, and the final reconquest by Christian kings.
Cuenca is one of the most beautiful medieval cities of Spain, declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. Cuenca was a fortress and Muslim city which after the re-conquest began a long and successful period due to the development of the textile industry and the commerce of wool.
The Prado Museum is one of the most important museums in the world. It houses some of the most impresive art collections from medival times to the 19th century. Students will be able to see and admire some of the best Spanish and European paintings from painters such as El Bosco, Tiziano, Rubens, Velázquez, Zurbarán, Murillo, Goya, etc.
The monastery of El Escorial represents one of the best historical and cultural examples of King Phillip II´s power during the 16th century. The building is known for its austerity and grandiosity.
