16 POSITIONS FOR STUDYING IN THE USA – CALL FOR APPLICATIONS CLOSED

The Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Estudios Norteamericanos “Benjamin Franklin” of the Universidad de Alcalá, on basis of the agreement with American universities, offers 16 positions to study in the USA for the academic year 2017/2018. Tuition waiver is included in this scholarship and is addressed to undergraduate students from the Universidad de Alcalá with studies in the in the fields of Arts, Economics and Business, and Law, excepting the positions for the University of Central Missouri, which focus on the field of Economics and Business. Student’s annual expenses will be approximately €12.000 (except for SUNY that they will be around €20,000).

Requirements: Students will have to submit an application form to the director of the Instituto Franklin-UAH enclosing the following documents:

  • Registration sheet of current academic year.
  • Student’s transcript with the grade point average (GPA).
  • Currently studying in the field of Arts, Law, Economics and Business is mandatory for this lectureship.
  • TOEFL Ibt exam with a minimum score of 80%. Exams with a lower score than 16% in each of the sections will not be admitted. (Students may have their grade around 20 days after the exam).
  • Name of the host universities in order of preference and field of studies at each university.
  • A bank statement or other financial document, in English, verifying that the student has access to €10,000 at least. Students applying to study at SUNY, Stony Brook University must prove access to €18,000.
  • Three recommendation letters in Spanish or English from three professors. Two of them by professors at UAH.
  • Photocopy of DNI and passport (both are mandatory).
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Statement of purpose, in English, expressing the student’s reasons and interests for applying for the scholarship.

Submission of applications: All applications must be directed to the Director of Instituto Franklin, Mr. Julio Cañero Serrano, clearly indicating the aid applied for and attaching the documentation indicated in the call for applications. The documentation must be submitted to the registry of Colegio de San Ildefonso; Plaza de San Diego, s/n.

Application period: until January 10th, 2017.

Procedure: A shortlist of all applications submitted will be made and a personal interview will be conducted if deemed necessary. Applications will be evaluated by a Commission who shall forward its proposals for scholarship to the corresponding host Universities who shall in any event give their final approval.

 Students that receive a position in the program are allowed to apply for the scholarship of Movilidad Global at the International Relations Office.

LECTURESHIP AT SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY – CALL FOR APPLICATIONS CLOSED

The Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Estudios Norteamericano “Benjamin Franklin” de la Universidad de Alcalá, on basis of the agreement with Northamerican universities, offers the following positions in the field of arts for the academic year 2017 / 2018 – 2018 / 2019.

6 positions to study a Master of Arts as Graduate Teaching Assistant at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. The master lasts 4 semesters (based on the student’s progress) and includes the tuition waiver and a remuneration of approximately $12,000 gross distributed throughout the nine months of the academic year. Students will have to pay approximately $1,700 per semester for their health insurance and administrative costs. Students, on their part, will be required to teach two basic Spanish courses a semester.

Requirements:

  • Registration sheet of the current academic year. Non-graduate students will have to turn in a certificate saying that they have completed their Bachelor Degree by June 2017.
  • Student’s transcript with the average score.
  • Having studies in the field of arts.
  • The English language requirement has to be met by submitting:
    • 550 on the paper-based TOEFL
    • 213 on the computer-based TOEFL
    • 80 on the internet-based TOEFL. (Grades are provided around 20 days after the exam)
    • 6.5 on the IELTS
    • 5.0 on the iTep Academic Plus Exam
    • C1 required on the Cambridge English Exam
  • Financial form documenting that the student has access to €3,000.
  • Three recommendation letters in Spanish or English from three professors. Two of them must be written by professors at UAH.
  • Photocopy of DNI and passport (both are mandatory).
  • Curriculum Vitae.
  • Statement of purpose.

Non-native speakers might have an oral interview to demonstrate their Spanish level.

LECTURESHIP AT AUBURN UNIVERSITY – CALL FOR APPLICATIONS CLOSED

The Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Estudios Norteamericano “Benjamin Franklin” de la Universidad de Alcalá, on basis of its agreement with American universities, offers the following positions in the field of arts for the academic year 2017 / 2018 – 2018 / 2019.

5 positions to study a Master in Hispanic Studies as Graduate Teaching Assistant at Auburn University, Alabama.  The master lasts two years (based on the student’s progress) and includes the tuition waiver and a remuneration of approximately $14.400 gross distributed throughout the nine months of the academic year. Students, on their part, will perform tasks such as teaching assistant and shall be responsible for a course in the Department of Spanish.Students will have to pay approximately $1000 per semester for their health insurance and administrative costs.
