Last January 11th, Instituto Franklin - UAH began the 2010 Spring semester of its Spanish Studies program devoted to North American students. There are a total of 101 students in the program coming from the universities of: Arizona, Colorado, St. Mary's (Texas), Auburn (Alabama), Oklahoma, Slippery Rock (Pennsylvania), Rider (New Jersey), Tennessee, Central Florida, Central Missouri and the Council on International Education Exchange (CIEE) program.
The Instituto received the students with the traditional orientation sessions designed to make the students feel more comfortable upon their arrival in Spain. During these sessions, the professors provided all the necessary information about Spanish life in general, and life in Alcalá de Henares in particular, in addition to giving them advice about how to best face the coming semester. The information consisted of the basic rules for living with a Spanish family, how to feel secure in our country, how to use the different forms of transportation, how to use the euro, the best way to change their money, how to behave in different situations, and what sports or cultural activities are offered by the Universidad de Alcalá.
The professors also took the students on a historical-practical tour of both Alcalá and Madrid, so that they would be familiar with both cities.
